my school has a ridiculus number of sparc sations sitting around doing nothing. but i can't run the dnet client. it says i don't have sufficient privliges. i made sure i set the permisions right. anyone know a way around this?

Yeah, it's simple: run the client on a machine that you own and administer, so that you can give yourself the requisite permissions to run this client.

That's not a good answer. There is nothing about the RC5 client that requires root priveleges, is there? It doesn't listen on a priveleged port (< 1024), and it doesn't require any system drectory access. Unless you are writing the log out to a system-owned directory, you should be fine.

Install it in your home directory on the Sun, and run it from there.

I agree with this.
Don't go putting the software on computers that you don't have permission for. Ask permission. If you get it, I'll look into it.
