Holy crap...um, okay buddy...you're on. I'll have four machines crunching for me in a matter of minutes...2 G3's, 1 Celeron, 1 G4.

When does this race start? (please don't say it already did...cause that'd be unfair.)

May the best one crunch!

LOL! Half of those people aren't breaking 1000keys/sec. A quater of them are doing nothing.

Like me... I do use my computers cpu alot! Not your everyday word processing, and so I won't be much competition But I will let it crunch while I sleep, and it is always crunching, even when I play a game. OS X is great at that.

Maybe I will get my iMac crunching as well.

You know I have finally gotten used to the annoying loudness of my tower, and can now sleep with the screen glaring and the computer purring, about 2 meters from my head.

I am only get an average of 7,600,000 keys a second, when my system is idle. Any way to speed that up... there is probably an answer on the team site.

I rarely crunch seriously.... I'm more of a casual cruncher...

Crunch maybe my daily 500 units, play some games, do work, goto bed, turn off machine.

*shrug* might as well kick into high gear for a full week

So far today I've crunched maybe 3000 units... maybe less. not exactly sure anymore.. I closed/started the cruncher at least 4 times.

cheers.. and good luck

Hey Joe

Remember me? RTCW OSXUSER?

Anyway, I just popped onto the RC5 thing with my iBook 500 (600mhz now ), I know it's just an iBook, but every little bit helps eh?. Anyway, i've a question, when I unplug the power source, the machine stops crunching. Now this is all well and good if I'm attempting to save battery life, but I'm not. So is there a way to keep the machine crunching even when unplugged?

If I remember correctly there is an option under the configration part of the app which allows you to tell it to continue to run even if it is on battery power. If you're running the X app, you'll need to run it with the -config switch.

Havent seen ya in a little bit but that's usual, I play at any homelan I see open (preferably 2 , 4, or 5)

I'm comofortably now burning up people on RC5 at the happy rate of 1000-1500 units a day, not much, but it's still a lot

Welcome aboard :-)

Hope to see ya later on RTCW!!!

Heh, I'm just on a iBook 600mhz, and doing very little crunching right now. But I usually use Homelan too. Usually 2 or 5 .

Anyway, I'm still getting the hang of this RC5 thing.

I won't be able to bring in a stats page just yet (i'm right about to leave for a while today), but I will later tonight, if i get the chance.

So far, it looks like competition is up in the 140's/130's, I've already been beaten twice it seems.

(my email is joeg4@sbcglobal.net for ranks)

Yeah, for those who have noticed, most people know my identity, but I don't use the other anymore (it got sent to a really ffffed email address)

I had to redo my computer last night, we're back up crunching today and it looks like 2 more hours till the RC5 crunch time. I'm burned but *shrug*

I will be getting in at least 1500 units for tommorow

Seeya later, both crunchers and rtcw players

-Joe

If you guys want stats coverage for the race, I'm going to be needing some information about the race rules.

I posted a thread with the details here, on the theory that a new thread would be more visible. I'll watch both threads for answers of course.

Ok, I've been doing thinking and crunching in my brain as well,

Anyhow, the race limit is now 2 computers, or processors. I thought this one out last night.

There is no solid way to figure out, but I can trust everyone to follow it.. unless someone goes blasting ahead doing 6000 units a night... (2 dp1000's?)

The most I can crunch is 2700 units a night. that's where I stop.. just for sanity

We'll be starting monday, goes until saturday, depending on participation, the person with the most units in all wins

Good luck

Well I think I might be able to aquire a G4/533 to do a bit of cruching. And if I leave my iBook 600 on 24/7... count me IN

BTW, JoeG4, have you had a problem with the Homelan servers? They seem to be down... I can't even see um.

Although I won't have the most overall... Is there a way we could statically check when we start and when we end? That'd be way more fair

I did number 98 on the Macnn team yesterday, but that's crunching all night and 6 hours in the day when i'm at school. So my crunching power isn't really that great.

The stats are up on the Competitions page. Currently they show test values, I'll reset the starting values sometime on Monday. Contestants are sorted by units crunched during the race. In the case of ties, they are further sorted by existing (non-race) totals.

Assumptions regarding the race rules: (based on question list posted here)

Type of race: It's a crunching contest. Only units that are crunched during the race count.
Race duration: The race runs from Monday through Saturday, the winner will be declared on Sunday after dnetc has finished the Saturday night stats run.
Winning condition: Who has the most units crunched during the race.
Did Arkham_c intend to be included: Assumed to be yes, correct if I'm wrong.
Can people join after the race starts? ... we'll see.
If any assumptions seem wrong, please post.

Notes
Anyone who posted themselves into the race has been included. If I missed anyone, or included someone by mistake, please post.
Mac Zealot has proposed a 2-CPU limit. There is no way to be certain if contestants will observe this.
I've rigged the stats to show Forum names instead of RC5 user names. If anyone objects, please post and their name will be reset.

So is it two computers or two processors? You mentioned 2 dp1000s...so isn't that 4 cpus?

I didn't know I was included, but I can be. I'll tell you right now there's no way I can come up with 6200 more blocks per day. Maybe the competition should be off a baseline, kind of like a handicap. So everone starts out with a handicap of however many blocks it takes for everyone to be even, and then we see who can get the most ADDITIONAL blocks in, say, a 7 day period.

That would promote people getting more crunching done too.

At about the same time this race came up, you posted this thread. Based on the title and contents, it sounded like you wanted in.

If you do not want in, or intended something different, post and I'll fix it.

Note for everyone ... if the 2-CPU limit is on, it appears that several participants may be using more than 2 CPUs, especially tadd. The "units per day to win" are based on who is currently crunching the fastest.

I was just being anedotal in that post. My wife had gone out of town, so I was crunching keys with some extra CPUs while she was gone. Now that she's back I had to dismantle the farm to make the office more presentable. I have more than 2 machines going right now (4 actually most of the time, occasionally as many as 9), so I am not really qualified anyway (even if most of them are crappy crunchers).

The race stats are working and have been moved to the Current Battles section.

Notes
 • The starting values have been reset, the race units now count.
 • Arkham_c has been removed. Reason: he had not requested to be entered in the race. Also, he does not meet the 2-CPU limit for this race.
 • tadd has been removed. Reason: it sure looks like he does not meet the 2 CPU limit for this race.
Comments / objections / corrections are all welcome.

Why not? Count me in please! I recognize that the race has already begun, but I'll just give the wee ones that head start before I smoke them. I'll fire-up RC5 tonight (had to reboot for 10.1.3 after 26 days of uptime!) and join the melee then.

My computer specs: DP800/1.12G/60G - Nothing overclocked. Nothing tweaked.

Prepare to be out-crunched, out-gunned, out-classed, and generally "Toasted.".

Why haven't the stats on the Competition page been updated in two days? By my calculations (which could be wrong! ) the standings are as follows:
1) G4ME - 12172
2) Bockie - 9510
3) edddeduck - 6667
4) 11011001 - 5412
5) The Dude - 1360
6) x user - 246
7) Mac Zealot - 147

[edit: I was wrong with my computations. I had edddeduck with 6801 when the number was 6667.]

dnetc stats had not run yesterday, there was no data with which to make an update. I've run the morning stats now, and dnetc did update last night. The new figures are up.

I'm testing out my new graphing function.

Some of the data going into the function wasn't quite right, I had to recreate the race data for previous days - the stats code had not been saving old data.

Still, the graph data should be within the ballpark and will be correct from now on. What does everyone think ... please post some feedback.

The final race results are in. We never did officially establish if people could join after it started, but Bockie won after skipping the first day.

Had Bockie not participated, G4ME would have won. We hardly saw the race starter Mac Zealot.

Graphs are finalized, and I (finally!) added the Phlump graphs that we had planned to have during that race.

Interesting, I'd like to know what machines Blockie is running on. 5000 units a day is alot. I've only managed 900 when running my iBook all out. I suppose two dual machines could turn out quite a bit...

Rc5 then uses the two processors? Because now I can have at best and iBook 600 and an G4 533 running. Which possible could beat a DP 800, but I doubt it.

Those two couldn't beat a DP800. For rc5, the iBook 600 with its G3 processor would be about as fast as a 200mhz G4. The iBook can get a max of about 2mkeys/sec, whereas a DP800 gets 16mkeys/sec. The G4 is just really good at this. You can see more at the client speed database
