I'm using a Wall Street PowerBook (233), an iMac DV SE (400), a bronze key PowerBook (400) and a G4 500 MP…

The G4 and the iMac are both running SETI in X (10.1), the two PowerBooks are running it in 9.2.1.

My question: Is it inherently faster to run in X, and also faster to run from the terminal? Would this be true for all the machines I can aford to run X on? (The broze key needs to stay at 9.2.1 for now.)

Would it be inherently faster to run two iteratins of SETI from the terminal on the G4?

Thanks.

I haven't run SETI in 10.1, so I can't say. However, when the comp is being used, it is definitely better to run in X. I would just run whatever OS you prefer.

For the G4 however, you should definitely run two instances. I'd recommend doing it via cron. You can find out info on how to run it from here.
Running with cron is good for all your OSX computers, because it starts the command line client up automatically.

If you haven't done so already, you can put your computers on the team proxy. Check out the team seti page, you'll find info on it, and tons of other things.
