If you are willing to setup a rc5 proxy server for use by anyone, please post here.
Also post if you have port 80 open.

More info to come when I'm actually awake.

Scott,

Can we lighten your proxy server load by increasing the buffer size used by the clients that are online 24/7? What would be a better setting than the default ones used?

Also, how much traffic would setting up a proxy server generate?

Cheers.

No, changing the buffer won't help much, because it will just connect longer rather then more often.
I'd really like to get a network setup, and I want a couple of proxy servers to be on this network.

I'm not sure how much traffic each will uses, depends on how many servers, but probably no more then 1K/sec average.

I could set up a proxy server if needed, but I'm not sure why one would use a proxy server rather than sending and retrieving the blocks from the distributed.net people directly. Could someone enlighten me?

We will be using the proxy to generate stats for users of it that are more frequent then what distributed.net offers. They only update once per day. Ours will update probably every 15 minutes, depending on how long it takes the stats generator to run.
We don't have stats yet because they aren't written. However, we'd like to have all infrastructure in place, since we aren't sure when they will be done.
Also, incase of the rare event that the dnet proxy goes down, we will have a small buffer so we don't lose blocks.
As another benefit, if someone runs a proxy locally, they can monitor each IP to get some useful data. I use it to see if a comp has crashed, and to measure processor usage by other apps.
