Hey everyone,
I recently went to a local computer show and bought a cheap PCI geforce 2MX card for a PC ( to replaced my rage 128 card in my mac). I was able to flash the GF2 so it would work on my B&W G3. It runs great on OS 9 and even plays quake 3 and everything. The card also works in OSX but when i run games like Quake 3 and War Craft III i get an error saying that " opengl couldn't initialize because of a unsupported video card". So i assume the opengl drivers are look for certain model types when it comes to the video card. The funny thing is, the apple system profiler shows the card properly as a Geforce 2 card. Back when 10.1 first came out i had an unsupported SCSI cd burner that i was able to get working after i manually added its model type to the driver. I was wondering, is it possible to do this with the opengl drivers as well? thanks for any info.

It is possible that certain extensions (gee, do they still call them that in OS X?) were not installed that allows your nvidea card to make use of OpenGL. For instance, I recently flashed a PC Radeon 8500 and it shows up fine in both OS 9 and X in the Apple System Profiler. However, to get OpenGL support and DVD Playback, I had to install the latest drivers. Maybe you can do a manual install of the nvidea drivers from an OS X CD or look for them manually in someone eles's computer who has a GeForce2 MX.
btw, I'm surprised you got it to work. Flased GeForce2 MX cards haven't had a good history of working in a Mac.

pdot jeeze you're everywhere I go!!!!!!
I tried after reading some reports that certain brands of GeF2 cards work right out of the box without flashing http://www.cybercoment.com/macgeforce.htm
...well didn't work for me and the card would have been just entry level in Quartz ,i wanted more so i did the same as pdot.

Here's seven pages of Radeon flashing for your enjoyment. http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...p;pagenumber=1
Page 5 has Ken_F2's recap on the process that will save you time if you don't want to go through all the material. Just a word of caution: Not all Radeon cards work (core/RAM speed differ btwn various brands, LE, non-LE) the same way. I suggest you try a card that others have already tested and use his/her method for a higher probability of success. Example: I experience a small amount of green pixels when watching DVDs. I'm waiting to see if the drivers in 10.2 will solve that problem.
Rant: It should be here by now. It took over 28 hours to go from PA to NJ. What's up with that?!
Souljah nice to see you again. The MacNN forum is a small place after all.

has anyone had any luck with GeForce 4 cards yet ?
We just bought a 3rd party GF4 Ti 4200 card today that can be used in our old Duron engined PC, but we'd rather put it in our G4 tower to replace the aging Rage 128 that's there.
If it's possible, it would be a bit of a cost saving. £120 for this card, as opposed to £400 for the Apple version (although we don't get an ADC, but we're using older Apple VGA connection monitors on that machine anyway).
