I had an airport base station die. I read somewhere that a guy was using his lucent card (from his dead base) in his G4.

It fits in the slot of my quicksilver, but the quicksilver won't close due to the antenna on the card. Can the black antenna are of the card be removed to expose the underlying "airport card" and be used with the built in G4 antennae?

No the Antenna cannot be removed from the lucent card...

Also I am not sure that the airport slot is just standard PCMCIA. Can anyone confim this?

Cheers,

I was under the impression that the pinouts were different on the airport slot from a standard PCMCIA slot. I had thought I read this somewhere but my memory can't recall the site

yea just to follow up. i read that the airport card is a lucent pcmcia wavelan card, without the pcmcia stuff. which to me means the interface is proprietary, not standard pcmcia.

I can confirm that a Lucent silver card WILL work in an Airport slot in a G4. However, since it isn't a true PC Card slot (PCMCIA is dead, folks!), it won't hot-plug, so the card must be installed with the machine off, or it won't be recognized. The problem with physically fitting the card inside I cannot offer a solution to. It might be possible to open the Lucent card (most likely, the black part contains nothing but the antenna, and it does have the proper antenna connector), but I can't say for certain.
