I think there's something wrong with the fan on my Radeon 8500. It makes a large howling and sometimes rattling sound. I removed the card and removed the fan but it appears to be fine -- nothing visibly wrong with it. I cleaned the fan and the heat-sync but it still makes the awful noise. Quicksilvers are loud but mine is really loud. If I open the case and temporarily hold the fan so it can't spin, about 60% of the total fan noise disappears.

Where can I get a fan that will fit on my radeon 8500? I'd really like to replace the fan (not necessarily with an ATI fan) with something that makes less noise.

I'd return the card but the warranty has expired.

Check ebay or a local PC store.

One of the reasons I avoid ATI products is because they usually epoxy the heat sink onto the chip. The vast majority of nVidia cards have the heat sink secured with nylon fasteners and this makes replacement of the fan a simple case of replacing the entire assembly. This usually costs no more than $10.
