It was good but the prices add up quick. For the cost and effort you are almost better off buying a used Powermac. You might save about 150 but you don't have to fumble with cutting a PC case to fit the ports and other little details. In fact even if you wanted to mod the G4 so you could have more optical drives you could buy a used G4 and sell the case on ebay. You'd recoup about $100 from that alone.
Its a good project but you don't really save all that much. IMO

It would be a cool project if you were to build a dually and go for thermoelectric water cooling. Drool.
Use a nice coolermaster aluminum case and mod it to the extreme. Have a nice window in there with neon lights, fans with sculptured fan grills, and a big water block sitting on top of a set of peltiers. Of course it is much more complicated than that, but wouldn't it be sweet to show off!!
I may do that next summer when I get some more money and time.

Im really not into this project. It is very time consuming and for what? To get another two 5.25 slots? The G4 already holds 4 internal hard drives a zip and a 5.25.
These complicated water cooled ticked out computers get old realy fast.
Before you start a project like this don't underestimate the amount of time it will take.
I think a better solution can be had by making an external enclosure for 2 5.25 drives with a ribon cable connected to an internal IDE card.
But thats just my oppinion.

i'm almost done with mine
and it only really took me 2 hours to assemble everything
though i have a lot of experience
but unfortunately the cost of the project was not that cheap
since i have several extra pc parts around i only needed a few mac parts to make it work

I take it all back. I belive its worth it. Its the only way to have everythig. DVD-ROM, CD-RW and DVD-R in one machine. The ultimate combo. And still have room for more goodies.
