Hi, Dont know if anyone else has done this. I have a Lacie CDR and Lacie external HDD one thing has always bugged me......The NOISE FANS inside these drives. So today i got my trusty screwdriver and opened both of them up. The fans are connected a pcb with a tiny interboard connector, i simply unplugged the cable, reassembled and now they are silent. Can any body see a problem doing this??

You know, I should do that too. My LaCie CD-RW sounds worse than a Hoover.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

You may want to worry about the powersupply. That can get pretty hot. Drives should be ok if they aren't being used intensivly all the time

See if you can find a quieter replacement fan from one of the many PC modification sites. I agree about the power supply, and you may be generally shortening the life of the drives by not having any cooling at all.
