Hey
I have an 8600 with a G3-500 in an xlr8 carrier card. The fastest it will go currently is 520-525, any faster results in crashes.
I'm considering going the peltier route just to see how fast I could make this thing go. Given bus and multiplier issues the fastest it could run is around 570mhz. I would probably leave it at 550.
So before I begin my quest, can anybody share any tips, thoughts, warnings, experiences or whatever?
Thanks!

I heard that Peltiers take much more power than the heat it pumps. For example, if your CPU will be putting out 10W of heat, the Peltier will take 50W in electricity from your power supply and put out 60W of heat on the other side. Water cooling comes to my mind somehow...

i"m working on a liquid cooled processor setup for my tower now. I used a liquid cooling amp in my car onetime and used Antifreeze because with the interior blacklights that stuff really glows. I'll try to post some pics of the finshed product if it looks cool.

You'd get better results from a decent heatsink.

I haven't seen an air-cooled peltier element that was effective on a modern CPU. There's simply too much heat to dissipate. The average 50watt peltier consumes about 6amps of current - quite a lot. If you stick a peltier under your factory heatsink, I will guarantee your full-load CPU temp will be higher than without the peltier. The combined thermal output of both the peltier and CPU will exceed 80watts. Ever thought about cooling a 100watt lightbulb? ack.
