I performed an overclock of a 2001 Dual-USB iBook, to up the bus speed to 100Mhz, and to increase the clock to 600/350. The iBook successfully increased the bus speed, but the clock speed is reading 400Mhz. Is anyone familiar enough with the resistor settings near the CPU to tell me if I need to go in and resolder (and if so, which one)? I verified the resistors are in the proper place, but if I need to redo them, I would prefer doing only the required one.

This should help.
Please reply once you do this and let me know how it went. Replacing the through-hole-mounted capacitors in my ABS was enough of a soldering challenge for me, I'm too chicken to go afte the surface-mount stuff!

I believe you have to revise the open firmware of the iBook as described in the link posted in the previous post.

If I am not mistaken the Apple System Profilier should correctly report the CPU speed if you boot into OS 9, even without the open firmware update.

That's the page I used to modify the iBook nearly a year ago. The problem must be in 10.2.2, since I remember the speed being reported as 600 pre-jaguar. Apple system profiler in 9.2.2 shows up as 600Mhz.

I just thought something was busted. I added the script to the nvram, and verified it was correct, but Jaguar seems to ignore it for reporting the CPU speed.

That's exactly how I feel. It cost me a lot of nerves to replace the two capacitors in my ABS. But I am glad I didn't have to shell out $300 for a new one. BTW: It's amazing how many ABSs have failed and how many people have been able to replace the capacitors themselves. I still think a class action lawsuit against Apple would be appropriate.

Soldering on the motherboard of my all-important iBook, on the other hand, is simply beyond me. This is especially true since I just sent in my iBook for a $280 screen repair (pinched backlight cable, see iBook Forum).

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

Try resetting everything ctl-p-r, and entering the script again. It took me two tries before getting it to display correctly. Make sure you type it out exactly.

btw i'm running 10.2.3 (6G30) if thats of any help
