I want to clean it. It's transparent and all and I've had it for a couple of years and it's starting to get a little grotty inside.

Can anyone advise me of a safe way to open the thing without breaking it, or should I just dunk it in bleach and hope for the best?

You can't open them without breaking them. There is a link somewhere on teh forum to a site showing how to open them, the mouse was ruined.

Don't dunk in bleach either - not good.

Get some compressed air and blast it out. Worked for me, good on keyboards as well.

I found a transparent Pro Mouse in a trashcan; it didn't light or show up in the profiler when I hooked it up. I could see that the cord was damaged near where it left the mouse. With much prying, I opened the mouse. I then cut out the broken section of cord and spliced it back together, hiding the splice inside the mouse and putting a stop knot in the cord; I had to cut out the transparent gasket that surrounds the cord as it enters the mouse. I caused significant damage to the black flange around the bottom of the mouse, but from above it looks normal. The white oval and the transparent bits were completely undamaged. I used some hot glue to put it back together. It works beautifully, and goes well with the Pro Keyboard I found the the same trashcan a week earlier.
