Hi all,
Just thought you might like to have a look at my robot before it gets put on applefritter.
Powered by X.2 (Orig. X.1) The linking of OSX to the home built robot was completed in March last year(2002).

Insanely great!!! Tell us more about it! What does it sense? Have you some QT movies showing it missing in action?

Wo! How fantastic!
What did you use for parallel I/O? Could it be one of these things www.activewireinc.com?
Does it use 802.11?

Hi all,
Just a bit of an update, the robot uses an onboard airport base station that can be connected to a mobile phone for truely wireless anywhere in the world operation.
I do have an activewire board but as I am running X, it cannot be used.
I use my own custom microcontrollers tied to a keyspan serial adaptor connected to the powerbook.
I have some video's and pictures that are too large to upload at this stage, I am getting ADSL in a week or two so I will do it then (to my .mac account)!
The robot is capable of climing small steps and curbing.
It has two video camera's, one black and white for low light and one colour. These pictures are streamed to the host computer via Quicktime Streaming Server.
The robot was completely programmed in RealBasic and I have learnt a lot over the last year...
This is the tenth robot that I have built.
A bit about myself.....
I have just completed a bachelor of Engineering here in Australia (Robotics) and am going on to do a PHD this year.
The PHD is based on Haptics and involves medical robotics....ie. a robot controlled by a doctor hundreds of miles away operating on a patient!
It has a lot to do with forcefeedback etc.
Obviously I am aiming at using OSX and a mac to controll it all....Just hope apple can come to the party......robots are expensive!
Cheers James....
P.S. I am happy to answer any questions
