Hi
You can definately upgrade the HD to a bigger one. I'm not 100% what the correct depth drive is, but they should swap right in. Make sure you remember where every screw goes if you do it yourself, but if you don't have any experience I would reccommend getting someone who has to do it.
Just a question, are you sure you only want to go up to 6gig?
Tom.

I assume you mean 288MB.
I would get as big a drive as you can afford, since it is a major undertaking. Any 9.5mm thick drive will work. Thereare guide available on the net, but be aware that it involves basically disassembling the entire ibook.

i installed jaguar on my tangerine iBook with the 3 gig hd. I made a custom install and dumped the extra languages. after a few weeks, I decided that X was for me and I trashed the classic folder.
I have M$ Office installed, eudora with three years of e-mail, a bunch of utilities, IE, Safari and the like. I have problems with photoshop... the thing takes up major real estate - almost 400 megs .
Without photoshop I have 550 megs free. I have to wait for the beach ball sometimes, but the improved environment is worth the wait.
I have headroom trouble from time to time, like when I go to burn a cd from mp3s, but I have to put up with it till I get to the states because I don't want to try to open this puppy up.

original ibooks are waaaaaaay fun to upgrade the hard drive on... in a non-fun way.
i had no guide or anything... i just took it apart... the hard drive is literally the *very last* thing to come out before the computer is basically entirely seperated from itself.
and it doesn't take 12mm drives. 9.5mm only.

I upgraded my graphite ibook with a 40gb (5400rpm) drive and it works great. In fact it seems quite a bit zippier than the old 10gb that was in there.
