I've got an Apple Pro Keyboard that has been beaten up quite a bit, and I have no worries about opening the thing. I'd like to add a bit of light underneath the keys to see if I can get a lit keyboard to work in the dark with (why the heck not really...no other reason)

So, what I'd like to know, if anyone knows is how much power is carried through the USB bus to the keyboard? Enough to light a light strip like this:This one
2008 iMac 3.06 Ghz, 2GB Memory, GeForce 8800, 500GB HD, SuperDrive
8gb iPhone on Tmobile

I believe that there is 5V, 500mA available for devices that register as 'high speed' and 100mA for regular devices. I'm not sure if the keyboard claims to be high speed or not.

Hard to tell if it will work with that lightstrip you linked to, since they don't list power consumption. also, its hard to tell if it uses the 12V or the 5V from the power supply. If it uses the 5V pins, then it would probably work in a keyboard, EL strips don't use much power. If it runs off the 12V lines in the powersupply, then the keyboard wouldn't be able to power it by itself.

peace,
sam
