Woo Hoo my first post.!.

I have a G4 733 Digital Audio with 1 GB of RAM, OS 10.2.3 and a GeForce 4 MX card in it. I'm not a big gamer but would like to be able to play the latest games once in a while. For instance, I'd like to get Warcraft III which I have read might benefit from a better video card. Also, I want to keep an ADC connection without an adapter. Should I upgrade to an ATI 9000, try to find an OEM GeForce 3 or keep my GeForce 4 MX and wait for an ATI 9700 to be released? Will the ATI 9000 or GeForce 3 give me that much more benefit on my machine(enough to be a stop gap till the 9700 is released)? Thanks for any advice,

Scott

After taking a peek at the requirements, you should be able to play the game fine. But with most games, if you wanna crank the graphics up to the max, then you usually do need the absolute top of the line video card, and the GF 4 MX is not it.
If you're set on getting a replacement, then I'd recommend waiting for the Radeon 9700 like you suggested. If/When the GeForce FX is released for the Mac, I've read it's just going to approach the capabilities of the 9700. And it'll be very noisy.

Thanks for the reply,

I think I'm going to hold out for the 9700 which I've read may be out within a month(I hope that means retail also). From looking on xlr8yourmac.com it doesn't look like the 9000 or GeForce 3 is going to give me that much more benefit. If I find a major deal on either, I'll do it, but otherwise, I'll wait for the 9700. I wish they would come out with an All-In-Wonder 9700 like the PC's have. A card like that(with good drivers) would sell like crazy.

Yes, as noted, the stock GeForce 2 MX has been upgraded to a GeForce 4 MX 64 MB.

I would also recommend the Radeon because, believe it or not, the nVidia drivers are worse on a Mac than ATI's... and ATI is notorious for bad drivers.

...making the 3's and 4's that much crappier. I've got a sweet-ass Geforce 2 ultra if you're interested =\
