Kind of a dark red / light burgundy, if there is such a thing!

Thanks Icruise!

The only issue I am having now is the adhesive that holds the battery cover on the battery. It was a pain pulling the cover off because the adhesive Apple uses is so strong. I simply put the remains of the adhesive back on, but I need to come up with something better, because it is sagging a bit.

Getting the bottom cover off was a total pain. After removing the screws, it required A LOT of force to pry the cover from the bottom of the iBook. I thought I was going to break something, but somehow avoided it!

It was all worth it....now it doesn't look like everybody elses iBook!

WOW! That looks really good Macpilot. I still can't decide if I want to make mine a single colour or put a picture on the inside.

What have you done to the trackpad button? We can get a glimpse of something, that appears to look quite good, but its not a very clear picture!

That is just a little Jaguar promotion sticker that I sliced up. Got it from one of those Apple store openings. The sticker just happened to be the same width as the trackpad button.

As far as using a picture or painting the iBook, you can always paint it and if you don't like it....you can strip it off and redo it!

Your iBook is mounted on some sort of clear rack. Where did you get that?

The clear rack is an iCurve. You can get them from Griffin, http://www.griffintechnology.com.

I have one, and would recommend it.

That definitely is a wonderful job. And it proves that the iBook does need to return to color -- white's just too drab for my taste. The only thing I would worry about, assuming a smooth process, would be paint chipping. Have you done anything to guard against that?

Thanks!

I took apart the iBook to paint the inside of the plastic covers. Top cover was easy. Bottom was a pain with lots of prying. Battery cover is affixed with a kind of double stick tape material that was a pain to remove. So as far as chipping goes, it won't happen on the outside.

You just lay down enough layers of paint so that when you put it all back together, the soft paint does not warp or puncture against the hardware and stuff that the covers are attached to.

When I read Burgundy I thought it was gonna look ugly, but once I saw it, wow, it looks really, really good!
Nice setup too.

The paint is Krylon "Fusion for Plastic". Got it at a big hobby store. Just make sure you lay down several layers. My advice is to leave the battery cover alone. Prying it off from the battery can wind up warping the plastic so that the paint won't look uniform.

That looks really good!

3M makes a spray adhesive that is strong enough to keep the battery cover firmly in place. I found a can at an art supply store.

You'll probably want to test it on another painted surface to make sure it doesn't damage your paint job on the inside of the battery cover.

I know the feeling. I basically got this iBook to mod it and screw around with an Airport network. I liked the iBook that I got for the girlfriend so much that I got my own!

I am thinking of doing another paint job on it.

The shorthaired pointer is a great dog. She would go to the deep end of the pool to retrieve rocks. The more people I meet, the more I love my dog!

By the way, if anyone would like to try a mod but doesn't want to permenantly alter their ibook (perhaps for warranty reasons or whatever) you can check out my ad for ibook parts sets here:
