Yes yes yes.

The Firmware updates for iMAC G3 350
disable the hardware to recognize memories NON APPLE.

God damn' the Apple company!
Damn' curse!

Is there a way to downgrade the firmware?
Will my friend (Goraki, from the other post) need to buy
a brand new APPLE memory?

Thanks!

You don't have to use Apple memory, all you need is to get good ram

I believe you can re-enable the RAM using "DIMM first aid" (available at www.versiontracker.com)
