FYI,
I purchased a new Sony DRU-500AX DVD+ internal ATAPI drive to install in an AGP graphics Powermac. I have the following to report...
I had to remove the disk tray bezel, face plate and activity light pipe to allow it to fit properly. All unsnapped easily and could be replaced. The eject button is disabled without some kind of hack fabrication. The drawer functions perfectly in this mode. The drive probably would have worked in a Quicksilver too, but not without removing all the face plate stuff.
No Finder, Disk Burner or iTunes functionality pretty much as expected. This "may" change in the future with OS updates or hacks. Toast 5.2 and the latest Retrospect both appear to work perfectly. Toast recognizes and offers the proper speeds including burn proof. I did a test backup with the supplied DVD+RW without incident in Retrospect Desktop.
Apple System Profiler recognizes it as a DRU-520A, which IS listed in the Dantz database as supported. I was able to boot from an OSX.2.2 installer CD. Holding down the mouse button does eject the drive tray at boot time.
