Can I put a Lite-On 52x24x52 CD-RW in my existing Que 8x4x32 Firewire Case?
My old B&W 350 does not support booting from firewire anyway so booting is not a problem.
Prices are just gettin ridiculously cheap.

Apples compatability page . Go there and see what mechanisms are supported after you find out what mechanism the cd burner you want has.

Just found this without intentionally looking http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_It...TE52246SBUNKIT. looks like it is a compatible model.

Your firmware in the case may not be compatible with all the burner speeds however. I dont know how to see if it is.

I tried replacing the 16x in my Que! Firewire CD-RW with a LiteOn 40x24x52. It didn't work at all. I'm pretty sure that the drive that comes with the Que! is a Plextor, maybe if you used one of those it would work? Prob. not though...

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
I went to the apple web site to see if the drive was supported, It was.

Drive arrived by USPS very quickly considering I live in the boonies. Only $49 plus minimal shipping costs.

Replacing the drive in the QPS case was quick and easy.

Hooked it up, and turned it on. (No smoke thank goodness.)

Started Toast, drive recognised. All speeds recoginsed by Toast. Burned at 52x on a TDK 24x certified disk (only kind I had) worked great.

Thanks again everyone.

Jochen
