How hard is it or would it be to have the apple symbol painted. I would love to have a weird pattern or something instead of the plain old white apple.

Depend on how good a painter you are....

I'm assuming that the LCD enclosure is very similar to th TiBook, hence no way to open it and put something on the inside.

I'm sure it could be done, but how good it would look is a different matter.

You could try finding some translucent plastic sticker material and use that to color the apple (i'm thinking of that kind that they use for car window decals that don't have glue, but rather just sort of stick to glass by themselves). I wouldn't try painting, and even though I sort of wanted to do it on my 12", taking about the screen is not a good idea.

Don't mod your Albook unless you know for a fact that you will never sell it. Modding hardware destroys your resale value, even if you think it looks good to you! I can tell you that I have seen almost new Apple computers that have been painted and "tinkered" with and they all are sold to people for 25 cents on the dollar.
