hi folks,

if anyone is interested: i did the hack with the external ide!

'cause the exteranl solution with firewire dvd-r PLUS dvdpro was too expansive, my decision was this hack, descripted here:
http://homepage.mac.com/tracer302/bl...toAlbum32.html

installation was very easy:
first building out the internal cd drive ( 4 screws on top, 6 at the sides, be careful with the touch-switch cable)
then plugging in my new 120Gig hd
copying system and all apps with ccc (20min)
then installing new hd in old slot
connecting pioneer dvr-105 at ide (using a "naked" cube)
installing dvd3

WORKS!

next steps:
buying a dremel tool and looking for a new ide cable which has a little different specs (from controller to hd it's just 3cm - so ide/ata specifications would allow me to find a cable with 2.connector 50cm away from controller!! good, for getting it outside the cube)... probably the guys from "DOS modder" has some nice cables...-

works like charm, 220? - compared to 500$ for the internal mce solution

btw: what "tracer" describes on his site is not possible to do in "old europe" - i didn't find any reseller over here for an ide-extansion (male/female adapter)

PS: this pioneer drive is LOUD!!!

Hate to crush ones dreams, but the inside of a cube can take a full sized 5 1/4 drive. you would have to do a bit of cutting and such but the place where the slot loading drive is, can fit a full sized 5 1/4 drive.

a little bit of cutting???

from lowest point inside the cube to uppest (sorry, grammar) it is exactly 176mm (sorry, old europe, old metric) - my pioneer dvr105 is 189 including the front panel of the slider...

so cutting of what?
for a cube you do need a slot-in drive or, you construct a totaly new housing, the computer is lying on its "belly", but then you trouble with convection cooling...-

no, the whole reason to do this hack is, not to pay 500$ for the mce "replacement" slot-in drive or to pay 1000$ for dvd pro to use a cheap external superdrive..

and hey, i will use this config twice a yera to burn my family videos - it is ok, so far...

maybe i find a better design solution for getting the ide outside...-
