I can get a Digital audio G4 466Mhz Tower for around £300 (standard spec) I can get/swap a Mac Radeon 9000 for free, rams dirt cheap, and I've got a spare fast 40 Gig IBM HD (which I could use in a software raid under OSX with the orig HD) so the only big expense would be a CPU upgrade, I'm thinking of getting a fast single CPU (a 1.2/1.33Ghz for £350, for gaming partly) but I remember reading that Powerlogix used to have a single CPU upgrade that you could "upgrade" at a later date to a dual CPU, which would really future proof my investment.
What I want to know is; Is this the case, I can't find any info about this, and I'm wondering if Sonnet or Gigadesigns do/will be offereing this facillity in the future, and does anyone think going to all this trouble is worth it (a new 1Ghz Mac in the UK costs £1050 with an educational discount).
P.S Anyone bought a CPU upgrade from OWC in the states and had it shipped to the UK, if so, did you have to pay any extra taxes?
