i have a pb 165 and would love to havea new one, but can't quite afford a new powerbook but have noticed that several times on ebay there are motherboards and other parts available for sale. . .would it be possible to gut the old one and put newer parts in? or not really worth the time and effort? thanks!

some people are like slinkys: they don't do much, but are fun to push down stairs.

I think itīs nearly impossible: The location and dimensions of the ports have to fit, in almost every new modell different components were used.....and so on. Notebooks arenīt standard ATX PC cases with standard components fitting inside. Better try to get an affordable used one (maybe a Pismo or so) on ebay. Lotīs of less work and more fun.

Yes , exactly. Theyīre well build machines, you can even upgrade the processor to a G4.

Pismo would be a good purchase, or a 600mhz iBook 12".

I really loved my 165c, but unfortunately you wouldn't be able to get parts for less than another machine, even if it did work. Save your 165c and turn it into an answering machine or something like that, or sell it to someone who needs a word processing/basic Internet machine.
If you get a 520/540 machine you could upgrade it to PowerPC, but realistically, a basic G3 unit would be a much better use of funds.
