Hi,

I have an old PowerMac G4 450MHz with a DVD drive and an 800MHZ eMac with a SuperDrive. What I wanna do is remove the SuperDrive from the eMac and put it in the PowerMac and then put the DVD drive from the PowerMac into the eMac. Anyone know if this is possible, or what the problems might be?

Thanks.

Michael

While your at it, why don't you switch the processors .

I don't know if the drives in those two machines are the same form factor.

the superdrive is probably not supported by your 450mhz G4

would love to just nick the eMac, but need the G4 for its expandability

will check the form factor of the drives, but other than that is there any reason why it shouldn't work? Are there firmware issues?

Thanks

Optical drives have been of standard size since about forever. (OK, since at least the early 90's they've all been of standardized size.) Of course, the notebook-size drives have also come out, and they too, have a standardized size!

Anyway, a G4/450 is definitely an unsupported configuration for a SuperDrive, but there's no real reason it shouldn't work. (But it has happened that older G4s get funky with SuperDrives, so be prepared that there might be a chance that you'll have to swap the drives back.)
