is it possible to the firmware on a Lite-On LDW-411S using Virtual PC? have any of you attempted this before? i am very new to this and will appreciate any input. i got a sweet deal on this drive and would like to update it. here are some links that may be of use in answering my questions:

I do not believe so. I flashed a Lite On drive on my friend's pc using a boot disk and the rom updater. Almost certain you cannot do that from VPC.
Happily using a Mac since '89

There has been discussion about using VPC for firmware updates at xlr8yourmac.com. Check the drive database. I think it wasn't especially considered a good idea, since an unsuccessful flash of the ROM can be disastrous.

Also, be very certain the updater is appropriate for using on a Mac first.
