Hi, I bought a new 80 gig hd, and thought I could put it in an old cdrw firewire case... it still shows up on my firewire bus as a cdrw... are there any hacks around this? Im figuring its a firmware issue?

thanks for any info,

Craig

i've run hard drives in a yamaha 2100 FW enclosure. Sony FW no good. ADS ok.. Yes it is normal for the firm wire card data to be displayed. check bottom and see if the hard drive version is there. On opticals it would be if you swapped em.

I did this a few years back, and what it took to make it work was to use either a utility from oxfordmicro or lacie. The firewire bridge's firmware had (has?) a selector that lets you select the type of device connected, of course this might have changed since back then..

good luck
