I am trying to mod my beloved old Blue Rev a iMac 233 that has just been sitting around . I want to put a dvd rom drive in it. I just want to know simply would it work.

I do not care if it fits in the case or not I would just get an IDE extension cable and run it outside.

Also, would just any IDE dvd drive work not necessarily an apple slot-load. Are IDE drives simply interchangeable and would it auto recognize?

Any other moding advice would help. Just playing around with the old thing

current imac specs 233, 30gb HD, 256mb ram, 6mb vram. Running 10.3 just fine

Thanks

IDE cables can only be 18" long before they don't work, although some people have had success with it.
