I always thought that the name "Blueberry" wasn't very fitting for the color, it should have been called Seagrass or something.. I had thought it would be cool to paint it black, but I never dared to do that because it seemed like such a hassle to get all the parts out and I didn't know what paint to use either.
So when I bought my G4, the iMac passed on to my brother. Recently his 20 gig hd we had in it failed and I had to rescue his files with my G4. So we ordered a new 120 gig hd and while we waited for that we decided to take the imac apart. We didn't follow any manual or such, we had to figure it out on our own, but it went well. We got all the pieces of. The hard ones to figure out was the cd tray eject button and speakers. The cd tray you had to first take the plastic frame of, then push the little hole so that the tray popped out and then unscrew a screw and you would get the font of.
The speakers had been attached by having their ends melted to the insude of the front plastic so that they got stuck. So we took of the ends with a knife and we then used a "glue gun" (direct translation, not sure if it's the same in english) to put it back.
We painted all the parts from the inside 3-5 times until they looked good. The paint was just "regular" black paint that we bought from the local paint shop. I can give a more exact description if anyone needs to know..
Because it's all painted on the inside the outside still has the same finish and it looks great.

So now the rev D is pretty maxed out. It has a 120 gb hd and 256 mb ram which is the most you can get out of it without buying cpu upgrades and it runs OS X 10.3.2 pretty well.

This is how it looks:

You can get 512 megs of ram in there no problem. Thing is, 512 meg sticks don't recognize. But two 256 meg strips would work. I had that much in my franken-iMac before I upgraded to a harmoni processor (speaking of which, they're really really sweet!)

Really? Cool. The box says maximum RAM 256, but I suppose technology moves forward.
256 mb ram is quite good anyway, don't want to spend more money on that old mac..
