Hey everyone,
I have an old Que! QPS USB Burner (4x4x8) CD-RW burner, I figured I might as well plug it into my powerbook and use it as a second cd drive, for when I need two cds on my computer.

However... when I plug it in nothing happens. It turns on, I put the cd in, and my powerbook doesn't recognize it at all. Not even a "whats this" dialog pops up.

I downloaded the newest Que! Drivers I could find, which were drivers for the chipset this uses, except they were for the Que! Harddrives, not burners.

Does ANYONE have drivers for my Que! Drive that are Panther (10.3.2) compatible? Or does anyone know a way for me to use it without drivers?

Help is GREATLY appreciated!
yep.

I just ran into this when I installed Panther last week. I downloaded and installed the Jaguar drivers to see if I were lucky or if I needed to go and buy another burner. Works fine in Toast 6. Have not tested burning in Finder.

Thanks Mark,
However... my drive does NOTHING w/ my computer at all. When I insert a CD it doesn't show on my desktop, at all.

Burning is my last concern... the drive itself is just not responding to my computer at ALL.

I installed all the jaguar updates too... still, when i put a cd in, my computer does nothing. Under my system profiler, under USB, it doesn't show the device at all. Its like its not there at all

More help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again Mark!

Best Wishes,
Dylan I.

Is it getting power?

It sounds dead.

Its getting power. It startups and gives me the start-up bleep. It opens and closes the tray w/ the button perfectly. It also spins CD's I put in it, and the Orage LED - Reading light comes on.

Yes, I downloaded that driver, still nothing at all.

It is as though my powerbook HATES QPS Devices... no where does it register it even plugged in.

I have it plugged into a usb port, not a hub, and the port works w/ other devices. I have also tried using different usb cables, so it is not a cable problem.

Any other advice? Thanks.

Best Wishes,
Dylan I.

Try it with another computer, see if it works. Maybe it's the CONNECTOR on the drive, see if its loose at all....

this drive is notorious for it's operation in mac os X. i also have this drive, and i've tried everything to get it to work, with VERY limited success (i got it to burn a coaster)

and methods that have worked for other people with the same setup as me haven't worked for me...
if you find a good way, let us know..

I won't be much help either...other than to say that my Que! CD drive doesn't mount on my current 15" aluminum PowerBook. And it didn't mount on the Titanium model before that. However it still works just fine on the clamshell iBook we have lying around. I get the impression that if the laptop already had a CD burning drive in it then you can't get an external burner to show up. Don't know of any way of switching between the two.

You can have as many burners as you want (I think) I have hooked up a LaCie CD-RW 48x32x48x burner (via firewire) to an ibook that burns. So yes... you can have more than one... there was another post somewhere about having two burners on a g4 tower and showed the screen showing both working... so yes.

Thanks,
Dylan I.
