Hi, I'm looking a dual proc upgrades fot my dual 800. Here are my options:

1) powerlogix with 2xg4 7457 (< new) @ 1.4 ghz.

2) Giga designs 2xg4 7455b @ 1.25 OC'd to 1.3.

Cool thing about powerlogix is that they use a new G4, and they can be swapped out when (if?) motorola makes faster ones (my assumption is just the CPU's themselves can potentially be swapped, without replacing the whole card they are on). I really like this idea, plus the fact that they are newer procs. Also this one has 512k (double vs. the Giga) L2 cache.

Giga designs, has adjustable OC'ing. That's nice, but nowhere to go after OC'ing to the advertised 1.3.

Prices are ~$1019 for Powerlogix and $749 for the Giga Designs. Obviously the Giga Designs is significantly cheaper.

Thoughts, suggestions, experiences?

Thanks.

I'd go with the Gigadesigns one. First of all, it's a LOT cheaper and it probably won't be very different in performance from the Powerlogix. Secondly, I've heard some mixed reviews of Powerlogix upgrades - they've had some problems lately. Finally, I don't know what you mean when you say the Powerlogix has a "new G4 that can be swapped out when (if?) motorola makes faster ones." Isn't that what you're doing right now by buying an upgrade? You're swapping out your old processors for new ones. Yes, the PowerLogix uses the 7457 instead of the 7455. But I don't think it's worth the extra $270. Hell, for $1019, you could buy a used PowerMac that's almost as good as the one you have now!

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*

Thanks for the reply, I tried to clarify the cpu swapping thing in the above post. They (powerlogix) advertises that the cpus can be swapped out with faster ones, presumably just the chips themselves, without replacing the whole card.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward the Giga. the price dif is huge, wonder how much diff the L2 smaller l2 cache makes?
