At first I thought I had found a way http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=208110 but turns out the "Sweet MultiPort" is just an overpriced hub that reroutes your existing ports. Pretty useless if you need more ports.

Does anyone know of a PCI card that actually ADDS ports, as in creates new ports without wasting the ones you already have?

So this is what you want.

1) ports on the front of your Mac
2) these ports to not use your current ports on the back of the machine.

I dont think this is possible. For a port (generically speaking) to connect with the computer it needs to interface in some capacity with the logicboard. Generally through a PCI card connection or it is "on board"(directly connected to the logic board). So, for these ports to not use the ports in the rear of the machine they would either have to be connected directly to the logic board or connected to a PCI card(which, in fact, they are).

Am I helping you to find a solution or just adding to the problem.

basically, install a firewire/USB card and then install a hub.

almost all of the pci cards I have seen (and the usb 2 one that I bought) have at least one internal port just for this purpose (and for a bluetooth adaptor). Do you consider using an internal port off a pci card wasteful? My card was maybe $13 and it has 4 external and one internal port.

$13? Where did you find that? Is it USB 2.0?

yes its USB 2.0 (works fine with my external usb hard drive) I got it from my favorite online retailer newegg.com I have bought a few things from them and they have the best customer service you can find.

after a quick search for usb pci card at newegg (then sort by price) I can't seem to find the exact one I got but I'm sure its there somewhere. If not I did see some other cards with similar port configurations for the same price.

For anyone else I also saw some very cheap (10.99 free shipping) firewire cards.

Hope that helps.
