I'm not entirely sure how it works but I think powerbooks have cold cathode backlights and I think mine is broken. Following previous tests, it doesn't appear to be the inverter board that's wrong.
The screen is still fine, no dead pixels, just obviously very dark. Does anyone have any experience of replacing the light and if so, could you give me some pointers please?

sorry, should point out it's a G4 TiBook.

I had a client once whose backlight failed on their HP Laptop. It turned out it was the power inverter NOT the lamp. I know Ive seen information about replacing the power inverter of a PB G4 Ti in the Service Manual. I'd try that first as, at least in my case, it's much less expensive.

sometimes its simply the wires get worn down. on my old ibook which had everything imaginable go wrong with it, has the inverter cable that wore down, and is now touching the frame. this makes if randomly dim, and zap bare skin on the screws.
