Hey folks,
I just bought a Dual G4 800MHz Quicksilver tower. It should arrive in a couple days.
Of course, I wanna OC the thing, but haven't had much luck on the net finding info on how to do it. Once source of info is here:
http://duxbury.la/dp867/dp867_1.html
I'm not sure what to think of the author's story. I guess if I follow his directions exactly, at the very least I should get a dual 867. Thing is, not even HE is sure if he really made the mod. or not, based on the text of the page.
What I really need is authoritative info on the location and arrangement of the pll resistor banks on the top and the bottom of the card. The author of the one page I've found on the subject made what he called "educated guesses". There's good info about the single processor QS pll arrangement, but unfortunately, the dual card is laid out quite differently.
I mean, there must be SOME kind of tech info out there, some library of these things, or something that tells a person what is where on this card, right? Where can I find such things? I'm just stumped.
Thanks!
Loopy

You probably want to look at xlr8yourmac I know they have lots of good info about proc. upgrade cards and I think they have stuff about OC too, just search for overclock.

I honestly wouldn't bother if I were you. A 67MHz overclock would not be noticeable, and not worth the risk. It would also be about as good of an overclock as you could count on. The 7450 G4, which is what your duals are, did not clock very well. The fastest I have ever seen anybody get one was 933MHz, but it was a single processor card. Having a dual, overclocks far beyond the standard clock speed are even less likely because both CPUs would need to be able to handle the higher clock speed for everything to work solidly.
The Dual 800 is a great machine. I think if you just leave it like it is you'll still enjoy it, without the risk of damaging it.

Also, unless you seriously retrofit the already cramped cooling system, you'll have a hell of a time overclocking a dual quicksilver... they run really hot and yes don't scale very well in overclocks.
