I haven't seen this link anywhere else here so I figure I would share...

How to burn 4x DVD's at 8x

It only works on the Pioneer 107's so if you have one you may want to look...

I flashed mine and it works just like advertised...but I also found that my old 1x DVD's now can succesfully burn at 4x...I tried one at 8x but it failed badly...

Don't try to downgrade from the newest firmware. I tried it, and the drive doesn't read out all it's specs in Apple System Profiler. Time to go figure out how to fix it. I'll take out the EERPOM and flash it myself if I have to... I'll let you all know (in case you care, lol).

Okay, the drive won't even power up. This is bad...

Update: I put it in my PC and dealt with dvrflash there. The drive is in kernel mode because the firmware and kernel do not match. It's fixable, though! Still working...

Update: The drive is working again, and at full speed! I just burned 700 MB to a DVD and verified it in a really short amount of time. I use DVDPro 4x media from SuperMediaStore.com. I have no idea what the problem was, but if anyone encounters a problem while doing this procedure, email me and I'll try and help you get through it.

Hi, I just got a new G5 dp1.8 and it has a "HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B" drive not the pioneer drive. Is there any region-free, increased speed of burning firmware for this drive?

That link points towards a V1.13 hacked/patched firmware, which is a little old. You can get later updated firmware installers (Works with OS X) from here..
http://www.macetvideo.com/flashpione...ioneerosx.html
It's a french site, but don't panic.. Just scroll down until you get to the 107 stuff. And the installers themselves are in English anyway.
I installed the later hacked/patched V1.16 firmware. This is region free, and has been burning at 8X on 4X Verbatim DVD-R's just fine.
Also on that same French site, is an official Pioneer 107 V1.18 firmware update (The latest), along with an OS X installer. It is not region free however. My drive has been fine with the hacked V1.16 firmware, so I am content to leave it as it is. Burning is supported on all the iApps and diskburner etc, as well as Toast of course.
I've had no problems with the updates from this site
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
