Sorry if this is a repost or anything but i just bought a dual 1.8 G5 and it only has the 2 harddrive bays, and ive heard rumors that there are replacement panels for adding 2 more harddrives (the clear panel that protects the fants etc) but i cant find any links on the web to anyone selling those aftermarket panels. can anyone help? any info would be great. thanks!

Hi there.

Got this mail from someone who makes them cheap:

Thank you for your interest in the G5 Drive Bracket!

You are receiving this e-mail because you contacted me about the product located at the following URL:

http://homepage.mac.com/walter_chise...toAlbum26.html

I wanted to get a quick e-mail out, as I have received multiple e-mails from several of you about this product.

If you are no longer interested, or want to be removed from this mailing list, please reply to this e-mail and let me know. _A simple “Please remove my e-mail address” will work just fine. _

It is still our intention to sell these units on eBay for a “Buy it Now” price of $99, with possible discounts for multiple unit orders. _Due to the fact that both my partner and I work full time in the technology field, getting everything ready (suppliers, laser cutting price, and other misc. parts) has taken a little longer then expected. _With that being said, we expect to be able to offer these by the end of the month (June 2004).

The following is a brief FAQ, answering some of the common questions we have received about this bracket:

----------

1. Q: What will the bracket come with?

____A: The G5 Drive Bracket will include the following:

____The Polycarbonate Bracket
____Replacement Mounting Screw for G5 (QTY 1)
____Bracket Mounting Screws (QTY 3)
____Hard Drive Mounting Screws (QTY 6)
____Allen Wrench for Mounting Screws
____Detailed (plenty of pictures) PDF Install Guide on CD

2. Q: What type of drives can be installed?

____A: Anything you want (ATA/IDE, SATA, SCSI)

____* Please note, you are responsible for providing the drive interface and cables.

3. Q: What IDE card works in the G5’s PCI or PCI-X slots?

____A: We have tested both the Sonnet IDE Controller and the SIIG IDE Controller. _Both have worked fine for us.
____
____http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_ata133.html
____http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=17&pid=419

4. Q: Do I have to “mod” my G5 to install this?

____A: No! _We simply replace 1 screw mounted in the bottom plate of the G5. _Very simple to install AND remove.

5. Q: Is there a two-drive version of the bracket?

____A: This device can be installed with one (1), two (2) or three (3) drives!

----------

Thank you again for your interest! _Another communication via e-mail will be sent out when the brackets are available.
