does anyone know know where there is a tear down of the airport. (orig./snow/extreme) In australia these things arn't cheap so i was looking at getting one off ebay, the pwr supp should'nt be a problem, but i was after the base station with the modem. Do they use dauthercards, i would imagine that apple would pull something out of the parts bin, i.e. modem from the ibook, Does anyone have ideas?

Have been inside my graphite base station (replacing transistors). As far as I remember, the modem is indeed on a daughtercard, though it wasn't a type I recognised. (Interestingly, the wireless transmitter bit is a standard PCMCIA card, complete with external (to the computer, had the card been put in one) antenna).

It was a sort of squarish card IIRC... not like the PowerMac one. Dunno if that helps.
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

He says the modems are the ones used in Powerbooks. Look just like the ones in the Wallstreet, Lombard and Pismo.
And they go for practically nothing on eBay, like US$10 or less.

I've hacked apart graphite ones before.. And as Amorya said, the modem is indeed on a separate card inside.. Approx 2X3 inches. The graphite base stations were prone to over heating, so I had removed the modems. I never used that anyway, and removing it meant a bit more breathing space in there, and less heat generating circuitry. Certainly helped..
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
