simply put can it be done with little hassle or will it not work at all?

i have a blue and white with a banged up case and would lover to get it going in a new case

The G3's board should go fine into a Yikes/Sawtooth/GigE G4 case. Putting it in a Digital Audio or QuickSilver case would probably require some modifications.
