Can I Cut Into a GeForceTi Card?

So, my dual 1G Quicksilver has been running hot lately, and I think part of the problem is the GeForce4Ti card I put in a while back. This card is so large it completely bisects the case and blocks the airflow between the two largest fans.
There seems to be about four square inches of unused space on the end of this card with no circuitry whatsoever ( see image here). My question is, can I drill out some holes in this part of the card to allow air to flow through the case, or will I pretty much ruin the whole thing?
Thanks.

Yes, you could cut it off. It is only there to extend the length of the card to meet the expansion card stabilizer.
I wouldn't bother though because I seriously doubt it will make a different. The QuickSilver case has the worst airflow of any case I have ever seen. That is the problem, not the video card.

Thanks. I think I will try to open up that end a little, maybe just drill out some vent holes.
My Quicksilver has always gotten pretty warm, but I put this card in back in October, and since summer got here it has been shuting down on me once or twice a week. Last summer was warmer, so I'm thinking it's the card, but you're probably right...might not do much good.

I think there was a cooling guide on xlr8 or another site mentioning replacing all of the fans in the case with better, quieter fans. That would probably help you out a lot. I did it with my B&W and it runs a lot cooler.

This is a common problem when this card is installed into the quicksilver type boxes. Check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/. I'm pretty sure you will find somthing there.
