I got some new batteries for my powerbook 190, to replace the old one it came with. Unfortunately, the new battery life stinks just as bad as the old. I only get to around half a charge before it conks out on me, literally. The low power and now sleeping dialog boxes flash by in an instant, and it dies instead of sleeping. This only takes 20, maybe 30 minutes. I know NiMH is not the best for battery life, but shoot, it should last longer than that. Reconditioning the battery, clearing PRAM and resetting the PMU all do not help.

I seem to remember hearing something about the power boards going south in these machines, but I can't seem to find any information about that. Anybody got any ideas? Something is obviously wrong, but I'm stumped as to what...

those power boards do go bad and they aren't that hard to swap, might be worth a try.

Brand new batteries sometimes need to be cycled a few times to reach full capacity. This is true for NiCads anyway.

My first laptop was a 180 and I had bought 2 new batteries for that one and one of them gave me an hour and 15 minutes and the other only gave me about 40 minutes. I was never really impressed with those old batteries. I was able to gain more time by using those battery draining apps though to try and condition the batteries
Quicksilver 867, 700mhz iBook, 1st Gen iPod, iSight, Newton 2100, and a 128k Mac. All operating and used on a constant Basis

You guys aren't going to believe this... I had a bent pin in the battery bay. After I straightened it, things began to work as they should. I theorize some sort of thermal expansion/pin disconnection relationship, but whatever, it works now.

Thanks for the help!
