hey.
i was at school the other day when the IT teacher was about to throw away what seemed to be a perfectly good firewire expansion card with 3 extra ports. he said that the only problem was the lack of drivers.

so i took it home to my G5 but it wont fit in my PCI-X slots i think it may be a standard PCI card. however where the block seemes to be there is no connectors or any of those print on wires that cards have.

i cant post any pics as i have no web space but will e-mail some if you think it could help.

my question is could i just cut a gap into the card and plug it in or is this not an option. i can do anything i want to the card cause it will just go in the bin if i do nothing with it - i guess no one would really want to buy it off me either.

all the product info on it is:
Swann
PCB NO.001-D5342-03A

if i cant get it in my G5 is there anyway i could wire up the firewire port on the card so that i could have an in car charger for my iPod? (i have one of the plugs for the car.)

PCI-x is backwards compatible with PCI but only with PCI cards that use 3.3 volts as opposed to 5 volts. Card that use 5 volts will not fit in the PCI-X slot for god reason. If you cut the card and tried to use it that would cause a short and ur G5 motherboard would get some serious damage.
