hi everyone. i'm in a pickle here. i bought a G4 CPU upgrade from Other World Computing last year and after a few months it started randomly rebooting and finally wouldn't start at all. I determined the CPU was fried as the mac was fine when i put the old CPU back in. I sent it back to OWC because it was still under warranty. However they are now refusing to honor the warranty, claiming first I didn't have the original packaging, and later that the heat was un-attached when they received it. The fact remains the CPU is faulty and they do not want to replace it so they are making excuses.

This could have happened to any of us Mac users out there and it's just not right. So here's where I need everyone's help. I want everyone to send a quick email to Benjamin Priest, at benpriest@macsales.com. Tell him you read about how they are refusing to honor the warranty on a faulty CPU and how you think that is unfair. Tell him until they honor this warranty, you will not shop at OWC / MacSales. Its just not right when companies treat their loyal customers like this.

Thank you in advance for your help and let's hope this will help the mac community as whole.

jg

ps - please pass this on

hello everyone -

i just wanted to thank everyone that helped me out today by sending a note to OWC. they were deluged by emails and relented and will honor my warranty!!!! SO YOU DON"T NEED TO SEND THEM ANY MORE EMAIL (unless you want to tell them they rock)!

I got several emails from the company president who was home sick and he finally straightened out the sitution. Hat's off to Larry Johnson! He is a good person and a good leader.

OWC has redeemed themselves and they have proven they are a good company. I retract any negative feelings I had towards them. I would also like to personally thank them for taking care of me, and doing it in quick manner.

Please give them your business at www.macsales.com

That was quite quick... maybe they just didn't want the bad publicity.

Actually I still won't shop at macsales until they lower the prices on older chips in retrospect to new standard hardware in macintoshes. Until then I will wait with this 450mhz G3 B&W.

I will shop wherever is cheapest... I love to shop at OWC, but newegg just beats them to hell sometimes. I did buy from OWC once in 2004 although I spent well over 1,000 bucks last year on upgrades for my Mac, OWC didn't get hardly any of it because they just were not cheap enough.

being a poor college student, this is a major deal for me.

(and 1,000 is << 4,000 for a new computer)

get me a student discount Larry! 10 or 15% would be fantastic
