I just installed a Q-Tech hard disk cooler on top of the HD in the back slots on a MDD and lowered the CPU temperature by 5 C (running F@H 24/7), temperature dropped from 51 to 46 C.
The only modification I did was to flip the fans over so that they blow out air instead of in. So now this fan works together with the 120mm fan and guides the main airflow towards the CPU side of the heat sink fins.
The small fans rotate quite slow so I am really surprised that it works so well, way better than the CPI slot fan I used before and much quiter

how'd you get it to display CPU temps? I thought G4s lacked them, because mine only shows disk drive temperatures.

It depends on your G4. From the QS PMG4's on I believe you have that option.

I'm a bit uncomfortable in trying to access the rear hd cage (the front hd is easy to access but the rear one looks hard and has a screw locking it in place;the screw looks kind of hard to take off) and I'm thinking about paying a certifed Apple tech to install this for me, but would it void my AppleCare Warranty though? Because I read articles in Accelerate Your Mac website and they had disclaimers saying that cooling mods (like mounting fans on the heatsink) would void the warranty.
I just want someone to clarify this for me.
So your MDD runs at around 114.8F-123.8F initially eh? That's pretty cool compared to my MDD.
Right now at the end of Spring, my MDD is at around 132F-137.3F and my room temp is 82.1F right now at night. Sure hope the hard drive cooler fans with bring a drop in temp; You said the drop was around 5C right? 5C=41F, so I'll be expecting a 41F drop in temp for my MDD hopefully.

I have a dual 1.33 gigadesigns upgrade and it has no CPU temperature monitor, even with that program.

A guy at the Apple's MDD G4 forums bought a Dual 1.4 Ghz G4 from Gigadesigns for the MDD also confirmed that Gigadesigns' CPU Module lacked heat monitor sensors as well, so Temperature Monitor programs won't work with it.

Where did you order the hard disk coolers?
How much were they?
This is definitely a mod I'm interested in.
