I've been looking around for a while for an hard drive enclosure for a maxtor drive I just purchased. The thing is the drive is ATA 133, so does that mean that I must find an enclosure with ATA 133 connections. Any reccomendations? Thanks

sorry I just realized i posted in the wrong forum oops!

Well it a modification of sorts, as you would want to modify the drive into a container.

Almost every single USB or FireWire enclosure has an IDE adaptor inside, meaning they will work.

I personally have used the Rosewill USB2.0 and USB2.0/FW400 enclosures. They are well made and happen to look like a G5 tower They are a little loud because the front end is mesh and the sound of the HDD can pass through obviously.

My experience of external USB/FW enclosures, is that your usually better off buying the cheapest one you can find. Even the good ones will die long before they really ought to. So with that in mind, don't rely on one as a backup device. If you have to, you should rely on two (mirrored RAID or making scheduled backups of one on the other).
I personally favour firewire drives over USB for use with a mac. I find the connection to be far more reliable.

I like those Rosewill enclosures.

Anyone know if you can get one in the UK?

Thanks,
