I've already got an old PB 5300cs lying around and I have a Beige G3 Tower I'm using as a server but I want to keep it as compact as possible without spending money. Is there any way to yank the screen off the PowerBook and splice a connector to make a ghetto flat screen? Would there be any wiring diagrams somewhere I can look at to get the right idea? I'm just really tired of the bulky 15" CRT I have to lug around all the time.

Adapting LCDs from laptops or iMacs is such a complicated task, its usually not worth bothering. The only way to do it cheap is to find the model number of the panel in your LCD, then find a standalone external monitor which uses the same panel. Then find one on eBay with a cracked panel in it so you can buy it cheap. Muchos hassle.

What you might be able to do is incorporate the powerbook into the side of the tower case. You could flip the screen and mount it on the outside of a side panel and mount the innards of the powerbook on the inside. Is there an equivalent of Remote Desktop for Classic? You'd need one in order for the finished mod to be remotely useful.....

I don't think that would do me much good. The G3's just a server running OS X and I'm trying to get a compact monitor without actually buying one...maybe I'll try a few things and see if I can get anything to work.

Some progress:

So here's the display detatched. The small connector says "10.4 cFSTN, SANYO"
If there are any gurus around that can tell me whether or not any further steps in this project would be feasible it would be greatly appreciated!

Yea if this was possible you'd see it all the time. Unfortunately the interface on that LCD there is totally different than any VGA.
