Guys, I'm trying to replace the fan inside my Pismo but the fan has three cables, one of which should be the tachometer signal; however, the specs for the fan say that this model (Sunon KD0502PEB2-8) does not have tacho, and I can't find any fan of this size with tacho.

Does anybody know if this is an Apple special OEM model and do you know if I were to mount a fan with no tacho (hopefully a Papst 255N) would the fan controller complain?

I've read the service manual of the Pismo, but there's no info there.

Well, I've disregarded the third cable and soldered a Papst 255N to the connector. It works, but suprisingly it provides less airflow than the original, not much, but more silently. Maybe the third cable, being yellow, is a 12V line and the original fan was overdriven (12V to positive, 5V to neutral equals 7V operating voltage.)
