Just curious, if there are there any ADC graphics cards available for a Sawtooth or Gigabit G4 that are core image capable?
Thanks,
Jeff
On another note, what is the downside (if any) of using an ADC to DVI adapter (aside from losing, I assume) the USB and power on CPU on a 17-inch Cinema Display?

Unfortunately not.
The only CoreImage capable ADC graphics card for G4s is the Apple OEM Radeon 9700 Pro, which was specifically designed for and only works in the MDD G4 Power Macs.

even if you can get the card, the Sawtooth would not have enough power to power the ADC. correct me if im wrong.

ADC requires a 28V feed for the USB hub and one or two other things. If your PSU doesn't supply it, the workaround isn't pretty. A gigabit PSU should have it, but the sawtooth doesn't.

i think his best bet to use an ADC Cinema/ Studio Display would be DVI to ADC converter.

So with a DVI to ADC converter, I'd lose the USB hub on the Cinema Display, which isn't a big deal, and power is through the DVI converter since there is no separate power cord?
Alas, what would be a good performing video card for say $100?
Thanks, you all are quite helpful.

No if you're getting the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter you wont miss the USB. And the adapter need power input to power the ADC.

With the gigabit ethernet, you have lots of options with the use of the ADC adapter mentioned above (no options with sawtooth sadly)... A PC converted Geforce FX5200, Radeon 9700 Pro, or any Radeon 9800 Pro (Mac or PC converted) will work in 2X AGP Macs with an adapter. Those 3 cards would have Core Image, some less than $100, some more (9800). Keep in mind the 9800 might just be pushing the limits of your power supply a bit, but I'm sure there are quite a few people out there using 9800s in this way. Unfortunately, ATI's new Radeon 9600 Mac/PC card & the Apple G5 FX5200 with the XLR8yourmac.com G4 modification are out of the question for you because they both require a 4X AGP Mac (yours is 2X AGP). As for options without the use of an adapter or modification, well there are none. An Apple Geforce3 with ADC would be a great card and upgrade, require no adapter, but still won't have core image. Good luck.

The sawtooth has no ADC, so that is one problem solved
What you need is a AGP 2X compatible, Core Image supported, card with ADC. I think your options would be limited to 9600/9700/9800 based cards. AFAIK, all the 2X compatible varieties of these cards (all third party from Radeon) don't have ADC.
You can get PowerMac G5 9600Pro cards with ADC and mod them for use in 4X AGP Macs (DA and better, but not on the GigE).
So, sell the old monitor and get a cheap DVI one. The DVI to ADC adaptors aren't worth the price, especially for an old box like the GigE. But I suspect a Core Image card on a GigE isn't worth it either.
Get a cheap DA or quicksilver, then you'll have options galore.
