I found one post from about 6 years ago where someone did it. They said it would take a hacksaw and about 15 minutes... Anyone ever tried this or have pictures?

I recall seeing it too. I'd have a look at the system articles on www.xlr8yourmac.com.
It will run happily from the IDE slave bus intended from the zip drive and a spare molex connector. You just have to find a way to fit it in the case. Hence the requirement for a hacksaw, since the zip drive cage is smaller and so is the slot in its bezel.

actually a dremel tool works much better. I did this mod years ago on a friend's B&W. He had to buy a 2nd optical bezel for the front, & I did the cutting/drilling for him .
I basically made 2 U-shaped brackets from sheet metal, removed the brackets for the zip drive, drilled 4 screw holes to match the new drive, and attached the brackets to the sides of the existing drive cage. Not that pretty, but it didnt matter since it was all inside the machine. Unfortunately, we did NOT photpgraph any of this work, so all I can offer is a written description of the process (my friend lives in europe now and no longer has that machine anyways)

Thanks for the replies. I popped it open to put the CD burner in it a couple days back so I got a good look at it all. And I do have a dremel, I just need a new cutting wheel. What's best for cutting metal?
As for the bezel, could I take something like this and somehow attach it to the current one to make it look pretty. Right now, it sits under a desk so it's not obvious but I'd like it to look stock.
When you made yours, you cut off the tabs that the sled actually screws into, right? How did you attach the sled after that? (maybe an appleworks diagram could help..)
Again, thanks guys!

That should do nicely. Might even pop right in. Not sure if its the exact same size as the zip bezel or not.

nice! Thanks!
So how does the cage attach to the case now that the screw holes and slide have both been cut off?

I attached the brackets I made to the cage that holds the top drive, with 4 very short screws, and the 2nd drive is held in place with industrial grade, super tough Velcro in between the 2 drives
