I have a ibook g4 933mhz which has a faulty logic board. It's been diagnosed at 2 applestores as being faulty... screen is white on bootup with no video signal on vga either. They want me to send it into depot for replacement since its out of warranty.

My question is it possible to swap my logic board with a faster g4 logic board, say 1.42ghz or 1.33? Does it matter if its off an 12" or will it only work with another 14"? I heard the optical cables and maybe even video cables might need to be swapped too.... While i'm at it can i swap out my combo drive for a super drive? TIA

It may well be possible, but I have never tried it. You will need a 14" if you have a 14" iBook. You can also swap the drive over, but you may find it cheaper to buy another iBook by that point.

Don't go with the very latest G4 logic board, I believe some of the cables and connectors are different. the earlier G4s are more similar.

Yeah the newer logic boards have different cables... but in general here's how to can tell:

The way to find out is open your current computer and look at 1) the optical connector (newer ones are white older ones are the brownish yellow) 2) look at the location of the modem and the cabling on top of the logic board. If the video cable is black and goes under the modem it is the newer type. if a brownish flat cable down the center of the logic board it's the older type.
