Do any of you have any experience overclocking on a G3 blue and white? I recently purchased a 600mhz daystar g4 upgrade and i was trying to see if i could squeeze any extra preformance out of it. Also what about the cache? It's running at an auto of 239mhz right now I was thinking of trying to see if it would run at a 2:1 at 500mhz.

Having been there done that with several G3 & G4 cards in my smurfbox, I can tell you that:

A) You MUST patch the G3 firmware BEFORE installing ANY G4 upgrade. see the website below

B) Yes, o/cing it may be possible, using the motherboard jumper block and some spare HDD jumpers
C) Every single chip has different tolerances for o/cing. The best one I had, an OWC G4 that was rated/sold as a 500mhz, but I sucessfully o/c'd it up to 650 notta problemo. The worst one was the original 300mhz G3 in my friend's B&W, which would not go past 350....

D) Changing the cache speed is usually a worthless venture in aggravation, crashes, freezes and other problems......ya just dont even wanna go there !

Your best source for complete G3/4 hdwr mods is here:

good luck

Don't expect to get much more out of it. If it is running OSX, you would probably get more mileage out of some RAM, or a PCI ATA133 adapter card and a 7200=RPM HDD.
